• Expression of Interest are invited for Lab-in-the-Field Experiment Gender Discrimination in Entrepreneurship and Investment in Ethiopia. The World Bank Africa Gender Innovation Lab is working to study gender discrimination in entrepreneurship and investment in Ethiopia. The team worked with an investment firm in Ethiopia to produce and record mock episodes of an entrepreneurship pitch competition TV show. The mock episodes will be used to test the impacts of different episode content tweaks on gender attitudes and biases in entrepreneurship and investment decisions among youth and credit officers. The lab-in-the-field experiment will attempt to measure gender bias in entrepreneurship by randomizing groups to watch different video content. The World Bank research team is seeking to contract a survey firm that will carry out the lab-in-the-field experiments to include pilots with a small sample, plus data collection and video watching sessions for 1,600 aspiring entrepreneurs (800 male and 800 female students or other youth) and 200 loan officers (200 credit officers from selected MFI or bank) to study their biases towards women in entrepreneurship. A total of 1,800 study participants will be targeted for this experiment. This Request for Expressions of Interest is to solicit interest from a consultant (survey firm) to conduct 1,800 in-person interview/viewing sessions. The sessions will be expected to be conducted by enumerators through 30 minute face to face interviews to be able to ensure quality viewing of the video clips and a short data collection before and after on tablets. For each study participant a baseline survey (10 minutes) will be conducted prior to watching a video clip, then a short clip (10 minutes) will be shown on a tablet and then a follow-up survey (10 minutes) will be conducted after viewing the clip (all in one 30 minute session). Piloting of activities is expected to be conducted in Addis Ababa, with potential to expand to surrounding areas for full data collection. Interested firms should provide information demonstrating that they have the required qualifications and relevant experience to perform the services. 1.
